Year-End Reflections
Gisel Martin l January 12, 2018 l Blog Post 2
As I sit here and reflect on 2017, I can say that they were all great moments. Even the times that didn’t feel so great in the moment, but I sure did learn a lot from them. I’m truly grateful for 2017.
Reflection Activity
Here is a reflection activity that I’d like to share with you:
Take a look at your 2017 calendar and write these things down…
1. What was the smartest thing you did last year?
2. List 2 things that you NEVER want to have happen again (if possible).
3. Identify 3 very high stress moments. What could have made those times a little easier?
4. What 4 things went really, really well? Why?
5. List 5 things you did last year that you could do better.
6. Out of everything you did last year to help other people, what 1 thing made you feel the best?
Take a few moments to sit with this and reflect.
Gisel’s 2017 Reflection
My answers to the 2017 reflection activity:
1. What was the smartest thing you did this year?
I attended a women’s group titled Live Your Soul’s Dream led by Mytrae Meliana. I experienced wonderful support in an energy altering space that opened my soul and let my confidence out to share my gifts with the world. I reconnected with myself and identified some valuable abilities. And, I took the leap to begin my Business Strategist venture. Mytrae was my first client and my work with her business vision affirmed that working with small business owners and entrepreneurs makes my soul happy.
2. List 2 things that you NEVER want to have happen again (if possible).
1) I never want to see anyone in my family struggle with health issues ever again.
2) I never again want to live my life with money as a burden.
3. Identify 3 very high stress moments. What could have made those times a little easier?
1) Dealing with effects of a divorced family. Even as a grown woman, after 14 years since my parents divorce, I still encounter unpleasant situations. Reminding myself to accept the situation as it is has definitely helped me make those times easier.
2) A lot of changes all at once. Within a month’s time we moved homes, my daughters changed to a new school, my day job changed my location, and my son began a full-time pre-school schedule. It wasn’t easy, but patience, understanding that we are all resilient beings, along with the support of family and friends helped us transition to our new lifestyle.
3) Intense softball games. I hadn’t realized that softball (and baseball) is such a strategic game. My eldest daughter played All-Star softball during the summer and I went to a lot softball games. I fell in love with softball and for the first time I felt stressed out during a sports game. Those elimination games can get intense, but I reminded myself that it was only one game out of the many many games she will play in her lifetime.
4. What 4 things went really, really well? Why?
1) Introduced practice of meditation to my life and my kids. We also learned about crystals and sound healing.
2) Spent a lot of quality time with my kids. Shared important experiences with them.
3) Learned to appreciate my husband’s unconditional love for me.
4) Improved my practice of listening and responding instead of talking and reacting.
5. List 5 things you did this year that you could do better.
1) Money management. I’m still dealing with effects of my past debt and student loans and this can get very frustrating. I’m learning strategies to lower my debt, but I could do better at managing my frustrations regarding money.
2) Maintain a clean home. It is definitely difficult to maintain a clean home with both my husband and I having full-time jobs, our three kids, and spending a lot of time doing family activities. I think implementing a chore chart for the kids will help us, now that they are older.
3) Rushing out the door in the morning. I’d like to give myself more time in the morning to do things at a slower pace. Especially for the kids, it can be challenging to get myself and three kids ready and fed and out the door by 7:15am.
4) Meditate everyday. I haven’t been meditating consistently and I’ve noticed a difference in my energy when I skip some days.
5) Continue to make better food choices to give my body what it needs. I’m happy that I’m craving more vegetables than before. And I do eat what I want to not deprive myself of anything, because for me eating is emotional so I pay attention to my emotions when I crave something.
6. Out of everything you did this year to help other people, what 1 thing made you feel the best?
To see the transformation that my clients made to their businesses. They not only got on a path to fulfill their vision, it changed their personal life too.
