self care & self love

What is Self Care?

For me, self care is taking care of my mind, body, and and soul. About three years ago, I began intensely reading self-help books and binge-listening to motivational podcasts. I put a lot of things that I learned into practice, I did some of the activities they suggested, but nonetheless, I still felt out of sync with myself. It wasn’t until I changed my perspective about myself that I finally connected with my SELF, my true purpose, with the core of my mind, body, and soul. I’m still going through self-discovery, and I don’t think I will ever stop my self discovery journey. I’ve been learning to feed my body in different ways, for example, by surrounding myself with people that uplift me instead of stress me out, by connecting more with nature, by improving the energy around me and within me through meditation, yoga, healing crystals, and sound healing. The most difficult thing for me has been opening up my internal box of stored emotions. I’ve been actually feeling my emotions as they come up and although it’s been difficult, it’s definitely been rewarding.

Self Care Sunday

On Sundays, my social media accounts are dedicated to #selfcaresunday. Here are some messages from some of my previous posts:

  • You can't take care of others if you're not ok.

  • We always recharge our phones and computers when they need it, but what about when we need to be recharged? What do you do to recharge?

  • It's important to give our bodies and minds the rest that they need to make sure we can be our best selves.

  • When I need it, I love spending a night with loved ones or journaling to help me refocus.

  • When you travel hundreds of miles to fulfill a pleasure. It's important to treat ourselves to continue to heighten our pleasure sensory.

  • Self Care= Nap time.

  • Cuddling up with one of my littles reading at bedtime definitely makes my soul happy.

  • Don’t wait until you accomplish your goal to be happy, do things that make you happy NOW!

  • I’ve been learning to love myself unconditionally. On Valentines Day, remember to love yourself. Loving yourself will show the world how to love. Today shouldn’t just be about flowers and chocolate, everyday should be about chocolate!

  • What an amazing reminder! “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” -Lao Tzu

  • I’ve been sick with a sinus infection for the past week. I’ve only used natural remedies to heal me. Plus, the most important thing to do when sick, is to REST + SLEEP. You’re body is working really hard to fight off the illness, help your body by sleeping. Stay healthy!

Self Love Challenge

How can we train ourselves to self love? By giving ourselves unconditional love. Love without conditions. I challenge you to write down ten wonderful things about yourself. I’ll start the self love challenge:

10 Wonderful Things About Me

  1. Great investigator.

  2. Amazing listener.

  3. I ask great questions.

  4. I can multitask.

  5. I genuinely care about helping people.

  6. I have keen observation skills.

  7. Effective communicator: clear and concise.

  8. Intuitive and analytical mind.

  9. Very patient.

  10. A great smile.

My self care and self love journey has not been easy, but definitely worth it! I can honestly say that a year ago, I would not have been able to write this blog post. Progress takes time. It’s ok to have “bad days”. Be patient with yourself. Accept yourself. Forgive yourself. Love yourself without conditions.

Tell me what you do for self care and self love, leave me a comment below.
